Governor Brown has announced an ambitious set of climate goals, including the support for a public campaign that enables 20 million test-drives of zero emissions vehicles by Californians over the next eleven years (2015-2025). Charge Across Town will do about 5,000 this year (and has done about 10,000 through 2014) so we can reduce that goal to 19,995,000. However, conducting almost 2,000,000 test drives a year for the next 10 years is the challenge, but California we can do this! The good news is there are many campaigns and organizations planning events throughout the state in every county from San Diego to the Oregon border. Following on the heels of the successful MTC Experience Electric campaign in 2014, the Plug-In Electric Vehicle Collaborative (PEVC) has just awarded Charge Across Town with a grant to help with ride and drive campaigns throughout the state this year. The PEVC campaign will work with organizations to amplify their events and get as many “butts in seats” at ride and drive events, because data proves that when people experience an EV it leads directly to more EV sales. Our colleagues at CARB, AQMDs, Clean Cities, and electric vehicle partnerships focused on disadvantaged communities around the state are gearing up for local ride and drive educational events. With a growing roster of affordable, longer range, hybrid plug-in and all electric vehicles on the market, there is an EV for everyone!
